Tri-Sen Systems to Preview the First Self-Powered Digital Turbine Controller at the Turbomachinery Symposium
Houston, Texas – October 1, 2010 –Tri-Sen Systems Corporation will preview the first self-powered digital turbine controller, the new TS300, at this year's Turbomachinery Symposium in Houston, Texas.
“We will begin selling the new TS300 self-powered, single valve turbine governor later this year as part of a package designed to replace mechanical governors as well as our own TS110 self-powered governor,” said Tri-Sen Systems Director of Marketing Tom Bailey.
The TS300 maintains all the innovative features of the Tri-Sen TS110, and includes: a new USB programming interface; Dot Matrix LCD graphics display; HART connectivity; UL, ATEX and CE certification; and a 10-year LiON backup battery, all in a package that fits into a standard transmitter sized enclosure.
The new governor provides an intuitive configuration interface through an integrated front-panel six pushbutton keypad, a USB interface or the HART connection. The menu driven configuration tool is simple and secure with three levels of password protection (operator, maintenance and engineer). Application configuration parameters (setpoints, tuning, etc.) are stored in flash memory. The integrated front-panel, six pushbutton keypad uses a proven LCD graphics display that is “sunlight readable.”
The TS300 can be operated in either a self-powered configuration or by using an external 24vdc power supply. When the TS300 is operated in self-powered mode, the power used to run all of the TS300 electronics is generated from two speed probes*. The TS300 also makes use of a back-up battery, providing power when the turbine is stopped or operating at low RPM in the self-powered configuration.
The new product includes a HART communications protocol transmitting status and health information as well as providing a programming interface on the remote setpoint analog input. The TS300 also includes a simple “menu driven” overspeed trip test and manual valve stroking from the integrated front-panel pushbutton keypad or the HART interface.
“Hard I/O” interface provided with the TS300 includes: four 24vdc digital inputs; one analog input that includes the HART communications transmission; two pulse (frequency) inputs;
two 24vdc; inherently fail safe, digital outputs (each capable of driving3A); and one configurable analog output (1-6ma self-powered or 4-20 with an external 24vdc power supply).
The TS300 comes standard in one of three selectable enclosures**: the D-Box for general locations, designed to meet IP66 ratings; the BH enclosure for explosion-proof locations, designed to meet NEMA4x and IP66 ratings and includes FM and ATEX certification; and the non-corrosive stainless steel SB enclosure for highly corrosive, explosion-proof environments designed to meet NEMA4x and IP66 ratings.
*The TS300 can be operated using one or two speed probes. “Self-powered” start-up requires the use of two probes.
**Contact Tri-Sen to discuss non-standard enclosures.
